This offseason a pair of NHL veterans who had decorated careers retired.
Derek Stepan announced his retirement earlier today after a 13-year NHL career. He was a pivotal part of several New York Rangers playoff appearances. Most recently he played for the Carolina Hurricanes.
Carl Hagelin also announced his retirement this offseason. Hagelin spent 12 years in the NHL. He played 713 NHL games and had 296 points. He was considered a Swiss army knife kind of player who could fit in up and down a lineup. This allowed him to be part of several successful NHL teams including 2 Stanley Cup wins.
After the retirement announcement of Derek Stepan, it was announced that he and Carl Hagelin had been hired in new hockey roles. Michael Russo reported that Stepan and Hagelin have joined the Minnesota Wild.
While this confirms both of their next adventures within hockey it does not mention a specific role. The pair will reunite after they spent some time together with the New York Rangers during their playing days. Both will likely either be in a scouting role or a player development role.
