Yesterday, Vladimir Tarasenko signed a one-year deal with the Ottawa Senators worth $5 million.
While this is life-changing money, it has surfaced that he could have had up to quadruple this if he had played his cards correctly.
Insider Andy Strickland revealed which teams had offered contracts to Tarasenko that were more expensive than what he signed in Ottawa.
Tarasenko reportedly turned down better offers from markets that would have netted him millions more.
First off, by declining the 4-year contract in Ottawa, he missed out on $17 million in contract dollars which is brutal.
In addition to this, he lost out on $1 million just by choosing Ottawa over San Jose.
Finally, he declined a better contract from Carolina, a state with less taxes than Ottawa, which is puzzling. Why turn down more money from a team who is better and will pay you more?
Now that it is all said and done, he will be playing with the Senators next season and will look to help them make the playoffs next season alongside their young stars.
