Evgeny Kuznetsov will take massive pay cut following his NHL departure
Evgeny Kuznetsov hasn't officially signed with a KHL team yet, however it appears to be only a matter of time before he does, and he will get a big pay cut.
Kuznetsov plans to sign a four-year contract with SKA St. Petersburg, and the 32-year-old's expected salary has finally been made public.
It seems that Kuznetsov's salary will be 92 million Roubles per season, which is $1.1 million. This is an overwhelming pay cut compared to what he would have received had he honored the final year of his NHL contract with the Carolina Hurricanes.
Per reports, Evgeny Kuznetsov will terminate the final year of his NHL contract that he originally signed with the Capitals and sign in the KHL.
If you can believe it, Kuznetsov was going to make $8 million had he stayed with the Hurricanes. He essentially turned away $7 million. If that doesn't speak to dedication for wanting to play in your home country instead, nothing else will. Either that or there was something else internally going on that we were never made aware of.
All signs point to it being more personal struggles, as Kuznetsov entered the NHLPA's Player Assistance program in February, and then got traded. He had the worst season of his career, having scored only eight goals and 16 assists in 63 games with the Capitals and Hurricanes.
