We are indeed very saddened to have learned the news about the death of former NHL defenseman Larry Trader, who died at age 61. This was sadly confirmed by the National Hockey League Thursday morning.
Larry Trader was drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in the fifth round of the 1981 NHL Entry Draft. He suited up for the club in 55 games over two seasons, in 1982-83 and 1984-85. The trading of Trader to the St. Louis Blues saw him play six games over two seasons with them. He then signed as a free agent with the Montreal Canadiens during the 1987-88 season.
After leaving the NHL, Larry Trader played a season in the American Hockey League with the Binghamton Whalers. He took his talents to Europe after that, playing five more years on the ice in Austria and Italy before retiring from professional hockey.
We would like to extend our most sincere condolences to the family and friends of Larry Trader during this tragic time. The entire community is with them in their grief.
