Jacob Trouba receives the maximum fine for his hit on Evan Rodrigues
Today New York Rangers defenseman Jacob Trouba has been handed the maximum fine allowable in the NHL due to his hit to the head of Evan Rodrigues.
New York Rangers' Jacob Trouba has caused controversy this postseason for several questionable hits he has made. Last night brought the latest installment with an elbow directly to the head of Evan Rodrigues.
The hit was originally given a major penalty but then reviewed and changed to a minor penalty. This caused chaos on social media as most fans believed it warranted a major penalty and an ejection. Today much of social media was waiting to hear about suplementry discipline for Jacob Trouba and now that has been revealed.
According to several soruces, Jacob Trouba will not be suspended but instead receive the maximum fine allowed under the Collective Bargaining Agreement of $5,000.
NY Rangers' Jacob Trouba has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for elbowing Florida's Evan Rodrigues.
This is an underwhelming but expected result to many fans. In the playoffs it takes extraordinary acts for a player to be suspended. While Jacob Trouba's hit was incredibly dangerous it did not meet that threshold for the NHL this time.
Now he will continue in the lineup throughout the Eastern Conference Finals. The Rangers hold a 2-1 series lead heading into Game 4.
