Three NHL teams reportedly in danger of an offer sheet this off-season

The NHL off-season has been chaotic thus far, and now that things have slowed down, there are a few teams that may be in danger of a dreaded offer sheet.

There are still plenty of free agents out there in the NHL that could contribute significantly to a team in 2024/25, but it's the RFA market that is significantly more intriguing. There are many teams in danger of facing an offer sheet, but given the importance of these three players, a recent report has suggested that the three teams most vulnerable are the Oilers, Red Wings, and Bruins.

For the Oilers, it's two young names in Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg that are open to a move, and given their tight salary cap space after an off-season of spending, any offer sheet would give them major headaches. With major needs and the most cap space in the NHL, the Calgary Flames have reportedly considered the idea of targeting both players, especially given that Holloway is a Calgary native, but as of now, there's been no movement on the idea.

Next up is the Boston Bruins, who moved goaltender Linus Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators, and now it's goaltender Jeremy Swayman who is vulnerable. Both parties recently opted against the second straight year of arbitration, suggesting a deal may get done, and while there's been little momentum towards making that happen, confidence is high in Boston that the 25-year-old will be the long-term option in net for the Bruins.

Finally, we have the Detroit Red Wings, who may have taken their final step toward the playoffs this season, but have two of their biggest stars in Moritz Seider and Lucas Raymond in need of new deals. With $19 million in cap space, much like Swayman, it's a matter of when a deal gets done, not if, but if another team out there can offer sheet either one, there may be vulnerabilities that allow one to leave the Red Wings.

Ultimately, there are plenty of reasons why offer sheets in the NHL are very rare, but given how crazy this off-season has been to this point, a string of potential offer sheets wouldn't be that shocking.
