The Carolina Hurricanes are looking to avoid going down 3-0 to the New York Rangers tonight. Early in the contest, chaos unfolded as a net-front scrum erupted into a full on line brawl.

It all started with a simple shot on goal by the Rangers. Hurricanes goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov bobbled the puck momentarily, leading a Rangers player to attempt a play on the puck. The Hurricanes did not take kindly to this, as one of the Canes dropped him with a cross check. After that, everyone grabbed a partner as Jesperi Kotkaniemi tried to fight the entire Rangers team at once.

THINGS JUST KICKED UP A NOTCH 😳

Rangers defenseman K'Andre Miller nearly got himself in major trouble being the third man in, but he quickly let Kotkaniemi go. The fan response from the play was very excited as this is the kind of thing that we love to see in the playoffs.

That being said, the officiating on the play was somewhat controversial as both teams ended up sending two players each to the box for minor penalties. No one got a major despite the fact that multiple players dropped the gloves. The Hurricanes maintain their 1-0 lead late in the first period thanks to a tip-in goal from Jake Guentzel.
