The video was clearly meant to be a way for Ducks fans to learn a little bit about their new player. After all, Gauthier was only just acquired by the Ducks this season, after he was shockingly traded by the Philadelphia Flyers. It is very rare for a former 5th overall pick to be traded before they even play a game in the NHL, but that is exactly what happened with Gauthier.
Unfortunately for the Ducks, the video seems to have backfired. Many fans were glad to learn a little but about the player, but many also expressed concerns about his character based on one of the things he said. When revealing his go-to Starbucks order, he said, "I'm a chick when it comes to that stuff," which many fans took as a misogynistic comment.
Hopefully, this will be a learning opportunity for the 20-year-old. That being said, he didn't seem to mean any harm in the comment. If anything, he seemed to be making an attempt to come across as relatable to younger fans. Still, though, he should probably get some more PR training to avoid more serious slip-ups in the future.
