Former Stanley Cup champion officially placed on waivers
The Buffalo Sabres have been extremely disappointing this season.
After a couple of years in which they seemed to be making progress towards making the playoffs, the wheels have once again fallen off.
The team currently has a record of 18-26-5, good for 8th place in
the Atlantic Division, 16th place in the eastern conference, and 30th place in the NHL.
As one might expect from a team as poor as Buffalo, there has been a decent amount of roster turnover as the organization looks for ways to improve the lineup.
Today they made another move as veteran forward Nicolas Aube-Kubel was placed on waivers.
Aube-Kubel has over 300 games of NHL experience and has 32 goals and 80 points to show for it.
This season he has appeared in 19 games for the Sabres and has just two points while averaging under 10 minutes of ice time per game.
The 28-year-old has always been a defensive specialist, but the Sabres are in dire need of both better defense and offense so it seems that they just don't have room for him on the roster anymore.
This could theoretically mean that we have already seen him play his last career NHL game unless of course, another team claims him in the next 24 hours.
We will just have to wait and see if he does get picked up, but that probably is not very likely.
