The Buffalo Sabres have shown plenty of promise in 2024/25, but now the team has some bad injury news on Rasmus Dahlin amidst a four-game losing skid.

After years of building up their young core, it appears to be only a matter of time until the Buffalo Sabres get back into the Stanley Cup Playoffs, as they currently boast the longest active playoff drought in the NHL.

While an 11-12-2 record isn't the worst way to start the new season, the Sabres are currently riding a four-game losing streak, and now the bad news continues to pile up for them.

According to Head Coach Lindy Ruff, captain Rasmus Dahlin is out of the lineup with back spasms, and at this point, it appears that it won't be something long-term, but that isn't 100% confirmed.

«It should be short-term, but you never know.»

Even that little bit of doubt should be a major warning sign for Buffalo Sabres fans who have stuck out this never-ending rebuild with eternal optimism, but if Dahlin can stay healthy, this team has shown they have the talent to compete with the best of the best.

In 25 games this season, Dahlin is third on the team in scoring with 19 points (6 goals, 13 assists), and with a +4 differential, he, along with Alex Tuch and Tage Thompson have seemingly been the only consistently fantastic players on this team thus far.

Now, the Sabres have recalled Ryan Johnson from the AHL to cover their captain, but if they lose him for any length of time, it could be the blow that ends their playoff hopes early in the season.

Over the coming days, we should get more clarity over the situation involving Dahlin, but with many opposing fans rooting for this team to get back into the playoffs after years of struggle, the hope is that he can be back on the ice in a matter of days or potentially weeks.
