Monday was a very eventful day for the NHL, and with three players placed on waivers, unsurprisingly, two of them have officially been claimed on Tuesday.
Firstly is veteran defenseman Joel Hanley, who was officially claimed by the Calgary Flames after the Stars acquired Chris Tanev from them via trade this past week.
My mistake: Calgary claims Joel Hanley off waivers from Dallas.
Hanley has just three assists in 32 games this season for the Stars, but with the Flames likely to move Noah Hanifin soon, he's a cheap veteran option to hold their blue line together.
Next was former Flames forward Matthew Phillips, who was signed this summer by Washington before being waived and claimed by Pittsburgh a few weeks ago, and now, he's back in Washington.
Washington (re)claims Matthew Phillips off waivers from Pittsburgh.
In 30 games this season, Phillips has one goal and five points between the two teams, and with the Capitals looking for depth offensively, this was a solid move for them.
