The New Jersey Devils are not where they expected to be at this point in the season, and now GM Tom Fitzgerald has publicly pointed out their biggest weakness.

New Jersey Devils GM Throws goaltenders under the bus

The Devils were thought to be a top team in the Eastern Conference this season, but due to injuries and struggles in net, they've not been able to put it all together.

Now, after firing Head Coach Lindy Ruff, GM Tom Fitzgerald called out his goaltending, who have combined for an atrocious .891 save percentage in 2023-24 thus far.

Finally, I asked Fitzgerald about whether the @NJDevils will address their goaltending before Friday's deadline. This was his answer. #NHL

Will the Devils pick up a goaltender at the deadline?

The New Jersey Devils have made no secrets of their interest in Jacob Markstrom ahead of the trade deadline, and with an outside shot at the playoffs remaining, it's a move that makes perfect sense.

For the Devils, it makes most sense to target him now, as this summer will see many other suitors emerging for the top available goaltenders, so if they are looking to make a run and improve in net, the solution is very simple, it's now just a matter of getting a deal done.
