The Calgary Flames celebrated a big goal in their pre-season opener, but fans were quick to push back against a player with a questionable past.

The pre-season opener was a successful one for the Calgary Flames, as a team made up of very little NHL experience was able to dominate the Seattle Kraken en route to the 6-1 victory. In that game, forward Matt Coronato dominated, tallying three points on the night as he states his case for a future in the NHL with the Flames, but it was the presence of another player that is now catching attention on social media.

The sixth and final goal of the night was scored by Martin Frk, a 30-year old that last played in the NHL back in 2021/22 with the Los Angeles Kings.

However, this was met with immediate backlash, with one user on social media quickly pointing to an incident that occurred a year ago when Frk intentionally tried to kick a player in the Swiss League with his skate.

The incident earned Frk a six-game suspension, and deservedly so as this could have had dire consequences had he connected with his skate, as we have seen over the past 12 months.

Ultimately, Frk served his punishment and hasn't been infringing on the rules since that incident, but given the dangerous nature of his act, it's no surprise that this has been met with backlash, so now we will wait and see whether or not the Flames change their stance on Frk or stand by the veteran forward.
