Canada has advanced to the final of the 4 Nations Face-Off, paving the way for what is expected to be a highly-anticipated showdown versus a classic rival: America.
Connor McDavid and Nathan MacKinnon didn't wait long to make an impression, each scoring within 46 seconds of each other early in the first period to give Canada early control of the contest.
Brayden Point scored early on before the first break, while MacKinnon added his second early in the second stanza.
Goalie Jordan Binnington shut the door behind him, making 23 saves to keep Canada from falling late in the game. McDavid and Sidney Crosby each had one assist, each playing the full night to register two-point games.
Meanwhile, star defenseman Cale Makar got back on the ice after sitting out Team Canada's previous contest after falling ill, providing much-needed relief on Team Canada's defense.
For Team Finland, Mikael Granlund scored twice, while Esa Lindell added one of his own.
Netminder Kevin Lankinen had a poor night in goal, allowing four goals on only 13 shots before being removed late in favor of Juuse Saros, who finished off the contest by making 14 saves.
A pregame narrative developed when Carolina Hurricanes' forward Seth Jarvis and Dallas Stars defenseman Thomas Harley were each scratched out of Team Canada's lineup.
The move surprised onlookers, especially that of Jarvis, who had been playing well throughout the tournament.
The Hurricanes went so far as to tweet out their frustration on social media, essentially accusing Team Canada of making a very dumb decision by keeping Jarvis on the sidelines.
The stage is now set, though, with Canada set to meet the USA once again in what is expected to be a highly entertaining rematch in the final, with bragging rights on the international stage up for grabs.
