Bedard's Michigan-style goal came last december, when he beat St. Louis Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington with the move. It was perhaps his biggest welcome to the NHL moment of the season. While the move has been done before in the league, it is very rare. For a rookie to come in and successfully pull it off just months into his NHL career was truly a special moment.
Bedard joined the ranked of players like Andre Svechnikov, who had successfully pulled off the move at the NHL level before. Fellow young rising star Trevor Zegras pulled off the move earlier this season as well, as it has become a legitimate weapon he tries to use.
NHL insider Greg Wyshynski revealed today that both Bedard and Zegras will be featured in a new ESPN documentary set to release later this month titled, "The Michigan." It will also feature Andre Svechnikov as well as Mike Legg, the man who first successfully completed the move in NCAA hockey at the University of Michigan, hence the name of the move. While he never made it to the NHL, his legacy continues to impact the sport with young players following in his footsteps.
At this point, it is only a matter of time before Bedard pulls off the move again. Given how young he is, we could see him set a league record for most Michigan goals scored in his career. We will just have to watch history unfold.
