Through five games this season, the Colorado Avalanche have the worst goaltending in the entire NHL, allowing 30 goals and giving them a 1-4-0 record, but now it appears help is on the way. While the team have already been linked to goaltending help, they did claim Kaapo Kahkonen on waivers from the The Colorado Avalanche, and now, the veteran has finally arrived.
That move took place over a week ago, and now the 28-year old has revealed that it was immigration that held up his arrival in Colorado, as he had to deal with work visas similar to the situation involving Chris Tanev and the Dallas Stars a season ago.
However, he's now arrived and will likely takeover the backup role for now, but with Alexandar Georgiev posting a 4.99 GAA and an .811 save percentage, it's safe to say that he may be needed in a hurry with the Avalanche. Through 139 career games, Kahkonen has a 3.33 GAA and an .899 save percentage of his own, so while he doesn't have a proven track record of success, it appears anything might be an upgrade in Colorado this season.
Through those five games, Colorado are 1-4-0, but with a victory last time out over the Anaheim Ducks, it appears things could be turning as they look to save their season. Issues could be brewing with the contract of Mikko Rantanen becoming a huge talking point, but for now the team is solely focused on turning around their 2024/25 campaign and pushing for a Stanley Cup, and they will hope that the veteran Kahkonen can help.
