The 2024 season ended in agonizing defeat for the Edmonton Oilers, and with several additions this summer, it's become clear that it's Stanley Cup or bust for them moving forward. That's going to make their salary cap crunch tough, with several key names becoming trade candidates, but none make more sense than Evander Kane, who reportedly caused plenty of locker room drama a year ago.
It's unclear whether or not a team has been interested in him to this point, but the latest report from an NHL insider has revealed that two surprising teams, the Anaheim Ducks and Los Angeles Kings are keeping tabs on him moving forward with training camp approaching.
Unsurprisingly, Kane at this point isn't interested in moving his no-trade clause, as he has the opportunity to play for the Stanley Cup in 2025 once more, but if the Oilers make it clear he's not wanted in the lineup, perhaps that would change his tune. It's also unclear whether or not that the Oilers would want to trade him within the division given the rivalry between the Ducks and Kings with Edmonton, but if it means moving past the drama and injury issues, it makes sense.
At this point, he'll head into training camp with a wing spot somewhere in the middle-six, but if the team start slow again, he may be one of the first pieces to be addressed by this front office.
