The Minnesota Wild play their second game of a back-to-back and will be without two key pieces of their lineup. On X the Wild confirmed that Joel Eriksson Ek is out with a broken nose while Jared Spurgeon has a lower-body injury.
From the report made by the Wild Joel Eriksson Ek will miss just one game and then attempt to play while his broken nose fully heals. This likely means we will see Joel Eriksson Ek wear some type of cage or face protection when he returns.
Joel Eriksson Ek has been a crucial part of the Minnesota Wild's resurgence in the last couple of seasons. Eriksson Ek over the last 2 seasons has broken out and become a star for the Wild putting up seasons of 64 points and 61 points.
As for Jared Spurgeon, it sounds as though more testing is needed on his lower-body injury. Without Jared Spurgeon in the lineup, the Wild will need to lean on young star Brock Faber to carry the defense even more during this young season.
For Jared Spurgeon, this injury is heartbreaking as he lost most of last season due to a major injury as well. At his best Jared Spurgeon is a high-end two-way defenseman who can tally in the 40 to 50-point range. Hopefully, the tests done show that this is a minor injury and Jared Spurgeon can get back on the ice soon.
With the game just a few hours away we will likely get an update on the roster closer to game time. Once that is released a true look can be taken at which players will be tasked with the most responsibility to fill these two massive gaps in the Minnesota Wild lineup.
Once more updates are given on the long-term health of either Joel Eriksson Ek or Jared Spurgeon we will pass along the latest information to you.
