Despite their pre-season hopes of a playoff run, the Ottawa Senators were once again one of the worst teams in the entire Eastern Conference, leaving them with more questions than answers. Now, they have a big decision to make on whether to try land another star, or instead move one of their own to prolong the rebuild.
A rumour has now emerged stating that they could be looking to do the latter, as the Spittin Chiclets podcast are reportedly hearing rumblings of a move for captain Brady Tkachuk.
On paper, this would be a home-run move for New Jersey, who need the type of grit and toughness Tkachuk brings up front, and depending on what they would need to move to land him, it would be a no-brainer. Unsurprisingly however, Senators fans aren't buying the report at all, as Tkachuk is locked in long-term and loves being the captain of their franchise.
Things may be looking bad, especially with the highly-criticized hiring of Travis Green as Head Coach, but at this point, there's seemingly no reason to move Tkachuk. If the team begins to struggle again and he changes his mind on wanting to be in Ottawa, then there may certainly be a conversation, but for now it appears this may just be a rumour, as the Senators and their fans absolutely love having him in Ottawa.
