At the beginning of the 2023-24 season, the New Jersey Devils were expected to be a genuine Stanley Cup contender, but unfortunately, they ended up going through two coaches as they failed to even make the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Now, Travis Green has moved on to take the Ottawa Senators role, and it's left the job wide open.
According to a recent report from NHL Insider Pierre LeBrun, they are now interested in former Maple Leafs Head Coach Sheldon Keefe, who was fired early on Thursday;
This report comes amidst the rumblings that New Jersey have genuine and mutual interest in veteran coach Craig Berube, who could also look to take the Maple Leafs job if Keefe is hired in New Jersey, with fans fulling supporting that potential move.
It's been a rough few years for Keefe with the scrutiny of playing in Toronto, but in the Devils he'd have an incredibly young, talented and hungry roster, and if it is the move, Keefe would have the opportunity to prove he's a much better coach than some believe following some big time playoff struggles.
