New York Rangers forward Matt Rempe is quite a polarizing player around the hockey community. Some see him as a breath of fresh air and hockey becoming what it used to be. Others see him as a reckless, dangerous, step back for the game.

Last night Rempe crossed a line and that led to harsh accusations from an opposing coach.

Rempe Crosses The Line Getting Himself Ejected

During the Rangers rivalry game against the New Jersey Devils Matt Rempe made his presence known throughout. At several points he used his physicality to help his team. He almost fought against Devils tough guy Kurtis MacDermid.

In the late stages of the second period, however, Rempe crossed a line with an elbow to an opposing player's head.

5 minutes for elbowing and a game misconduct for Matt Rempe.

The hit caused chaos to break loose with several Devils players looking to challenge Matt Rempe while sticking up for their teammate. Not only did Rempe decline but he also waved sarcastically at the Devils' bench while being ejected from the game.

Rempe is assessed a 5 minute major for elbowing and a game misconduct.

MadDermid receives a 10 minute misconduct

Rempe was ejected and after the game, the New Jersey Devils had some harsh comments for the young enforcer.

Devils Interim Coach Calls Out Rempe for Intent To Injure

After the game, New Jersey Devils interim head coach Travis Green was asked about the play that led to Rempe's ejection. Green did not mix his words stating that what Rempe did was predatorial in nature.

"I think there's some intent there to injure the player," Devils interim coach Travis Green said post-game about Rempe's flying elbow smash on Jonas Siegenthaler.

"Everyone who knows the game at all knows that [Siegenthaler] is in a vulnerable spot. Call it predatorial or whatever you want to call it. It's definitely not the first time that it's happened [for Rempe], and it's the second time against us," Green said.

These strong statements from the Devils head coach will cause a stir around the NHL for sure. With Rempe heading for a suspension soon it will be interesting to see if this experience serves as a wake-up call for the youngster.
