The New York Rangers have made not one but two huge trades in recent times, and according to a report, Ryan Lindgren could be the next name on the way out.
The past few weeks in New York certainly haven't been pretty, and with the team shipping out captain Jacob Trouba and Kaako Kappo, it's clear that things are changing in the Big Apple.
While the likes of Jimmy Vesey and Chris Kreider remain on the trade block, another name has now been added by Dan Rosen of NHL.com, who has revealed that Ryan Lindgren could be the next name shipped out of New York.
«He's been a warrior, but Lindgren has a lot of miles, bumps, and bruises on him. He's not mobile. He's not quick. Adam Fox needs a defense partner that can be a safety net for him, which Lindgren has been for years. But Fox needs a defense partner with some more life in his legs than Lindgren has left.» Lindgren has certainly been solid for the Rangers over a number of years, but as of late his toughness and lack of speed has clearly come back to hurt him, with Rosen believing the team could use a much quicker partner for Adam Fox on the blue line.
On top of that, Lindgren is set to hit free agency this summer, and with a $4.5 million cap hit in 2024/25, there's a chance that the Rangers may look to dump him and give themselves more salary cap space to go after a big name.
At this point in time, Rangers fans seem to be done with Lindgren, especially when the team is scratching young players like Zac Jones in favor of No. 55, who clearly is having a career-worst season on the ice.
Whether or not Chris Drury can get a good return for Lindgren is yet to be seen, but given the public comments he's made about teammates struggling and his own poor play, it makes sense for the team to move on from him one way or another.
