Ottawa Senators announce the signing of a former Maple Leafs veteran who hasn't played since 2018

The Ottawa Senators have announced two PTO's for training camp, and one of those players, Nikolay Kulemin is a former Maple Leaf returning after six years away.
The Ottawa Senators have disappointed their fans over the past few seasons, and after some interesting moves this off-season, they've now made another one. On Thursday, the team announced that they had signed two players to PTO's, with the more shocking of the two being Nikolay Kulemin, a former Toronto Maple Leaf who hasn't appeared in the NHL since 2018.
At 38-years of age, he's spent that hiatus away from the league in the KHL with two different teams, but now he's looking to rekindle his career in North America with 669 NHL games already under his belt. Kulemin was a second round pick of the Maple Leafs back in the 2006 NHL Draft, and while he was a solid player, he never turned into the star that many had hoped for.
With a lineup full of talent like Drake Batherson, Claude Giroux, Brady Tkachuk, Tim Stutzle, Shane Pinto and several others, he won't be in line for a significant role, but if the team can find a depth role on the fourth line for him, it may not be the worst move for the team if he impresses in training camp.
However, Kulemin hasn't been putting up big numbers in the KHL since his NHL departure from the New York Islanders, so it's unclear if he can cut it at the NHL level for now, so we will need to wait for Senators training camp to see how this one plays out.
