The Toronto Maple Leafs ECHL affiliate has disbanded, meaning that many future prospects for the Maple Leafs are about to become free agents.

Last week, rumours began to circulate that The Growlers' owner was in financial trouble and that the ownership had defaulted on loans. Unfortunately, it seems that it was impossible to save The Growlers from their financial difficulties, meaning that the team was forced to disband.

Maxime Truman announced that the team notified the other franchises in the league that their players will soon become free agents.

Many reported that the ECHL was working on ensuring that the players would still be supported financially for the rest of the season. Since many are becoming free agents, it is assumed that some will most likely switch teams. Some might not find new teams and will be forced to end their seasons early.

This is a sad day for ECHL and Growlers fans. These players have worked hard to get to where they are, hopefully they will continue their efforts to continue their pro hockey careers, unfortunately, hockey is still a business, and sometimes it can interfere with a player's career.
