ECHL player suspended indefinitely after hit sent opponent to hospital
Trois-Rivieres Lions forward Jonathan Yantsis has been suspended indefinitely, the ECHL announced today after a dangerous hit sent Milwaukee Admirals defenseman Darick Louis-Jean to the hospital.
The play happened behind the net, at the corner boards. Louis-Jean was facing the boards, standing at the goal line when Yantsis came in with a violent and obvious cross-check to his lower-back, sending the Admirals defenseman flying face-first into the boards.

Many fans accurately pointed out how brutal the hit was. Luckily, the referees seemed to have a good handle on the situation, as they immediately called Yantsis for a game misconduct.
Just a brutal hit to the numbers by Jonathan Yantsis. I would be surprised if he's available to the Lions for tonight's game 6 between the Lions and Norfolk.
The series has been very feisty thus far. The Lions have to watch their emotions, as they are taking a lot of penalties.
Yantsis has since received substantial supplementary discipline from the league as today the ECHL announced an indefinite suspension for the Lions forward. Given the severity of the play, it would stand to reason that he should get a very lengthy suspension.
The ECHL just announced Jonathan Yantsis is suspended indefinitely pending a further review. There's no room in hockey for a hit like this. Norfolk announced Darick Louis-Jean was transported to a local hospital and he was cleared by the doctors and released earlier this morning.
Luckily, Darick Louis-Jean was okay. The Admirals updated his status this morning, noting that he was cleared by his doctors and released from the hospital after a night of observations.
UPDATE | Darick Louis-Jean was transported to a local hospital last night. He was cleared by the doctors and released earlier this morning. Darick and the Admirals organization would like to thank everyone for your thoughts and prayers. 🙏
