Evander Kane has been a player surrounded in mystery over the past couple of months. During the Oilers Stanley Cup Finals run Evander Kane was injured and forced out of the lineup for the final series. After their loss to the Florida Panthers not all that much was revealed on Evander Kane's injury.
Today that all changed when Oilers reporter Bob Stauffer took to X to reveal that the Edmonton Oilers are expected to put Evander Kane on Long Term Injured Reserve (LTIR) to begin the season. This means whatever Evander Kane is dealing with is likely quite a serious injury that now according to Bob Stauffer could require surgery.
A development like this is strange. If Evander Kane needed surgery for the injury he suffered why not just get it once the season ends? If the team and he held off that likely means surgery wasn't expected to be necessary which creates the discussion over whether or not Evander Kane has had a setback.
This will not be Evander Kane's first time on LTIR if he ends up there. He also was afflicted by an injury to his wrist during the 2022-23 season that kept him out for several months.
Now it seems he is on the mend once again and working toward a full recovery. In the meantime, the Edmonton Oilers will now have to potentially scramble to find a replacement for Evander Kane within their top-six until he is able to return.
