A possible COVID-19 outbreak in Winnipeg is concerning for the Jets
The Winnipeg Jets could be the first in line to face an actual COVID-19 outbreak this season, after Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff reported that the team is awaiting test results and could have more players entering COVID-19 protocol on Thursday.
Blake Wheeler, captain of the Jets, tested positive for the virus on Tuesday and has been experiencing some symptoms after having found himself on the NHL's COVID-19 protocol list on Monday.
Wheeler joins several players, including Colorado's Nathan MacKinnon, in testing positive for the virus early on this season, but the situation in Winnipeg is a bit more concerning than the one in Colorado, given that there could potentially be a larger number of players affected in this case.
There are certainly implications for the the league here, which could involve the postponement of games, but for now there are more questions than answers.
If the number of players who test positive is limited to just a few, the Jets should be able to continue on with the help of some call-ups from the Manitoba Moose while the infected players are in self-isolation.
