At the start of the season, there was great anticipation for the Pittsburgh Penguins, who had an aging roster but still held high hopes of making it to the playoffs. However, their disappointing performance over the course of the season has left fans feeling despondent.
With only two games remaining, the Penguins had the chance to determine their own fate. These two matches were against the two worst teams in the National Hockey League, the Chicago Blackhawks and the Columbus Blue Jackets. However, despite everything being on the line, the Penguins lost both games, ending their chances of qualifying for the Stanley Cup playoffs.
As a consequence of this failure, the Penguins' upper management was fired the very next day, adding insult to injury.
Despite the disappointment, the team's long-time captain and one of the greatest players of all time, Sidney Crosby, remains determined to win another Stanley Cup before retiring. He has expressed his desire to finish his career in a winning team that can provide him with the opportunity to achieve this goal.
When asked if he wanted to finish his career in Pittsburgh, Crosby said: "I'd love to. That's been the case since Day 1. I feel really fortunate to have been drafted here. I have great memories. I've got to play with two teammates specifically for a really long time - so I'd love that to be the case."
Will Sidney Crosby get re-signed to a deal that takes him into his 40's like Malkin and Letang?
