He has been on the Ducks for 9 seasons, but only officially as a full time member for 7, but during those 7 he has been one of the best players on the team. Despite being one of the best goaltenders in the league, he has been unable to get back into the playoffs these last 4 seasons and it seems as though he is getting frustrated with the teams lack of success.
According to Sportsnet's Nick Alberga, Gibson has informed the Ducks he would waive his no-trade clause to be dealt to another NHL team.
Hearing Ducks G John Gibson is open to being dealt and belief out of Anaheim is he's informed the club of that. #FlyTogether Nick Alberga (@thegoldenmuzzy) June 13, 2022
The 28 year old has 5 years left on a contract that has a $6,400,000 cap hit, which is very team friendly for a bonafide star starting goalie.
The Ducks are in the midst of a rebuild, but have some very promising players like Zegras, Drysdale, McTavish, Comtois, Jones, Terry and more, the future is very bright for this team, but with the retirement of long-time captain Ryan Getzlaf and the past few seasons of no playoff hockey it seems to have boiled over for Gibson.
A few teams that could be looking for Gibson's services are:
The Washington Capitals, who two younger goaltenders who could be sent back in the trade.
The Toronto Maple Leafs who are most likely letting Jack Campbell walk and want to move on from Petr Mrazek.
The Edmonton Oilers who haven't had a solid starting goalie in years.
