One of the best things the National Hockey League has done, is implement the Emergency Backup Goalie (EBUG).

Since this was implemented, it has generated some of the best storylines in the NHL.

We first saw in 2018, goaltender Scott Foster make his debut, making 7 saves. Then in 2020, we saw the infamous David Ayres come in for the Carolina Hurricanes and earn his first NHL win against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

We almost saw another EBUG make his way in last night, but it wasn't an unknown goalie, it was one of the best goaltenders to ever play the game, Curtis Joseph.

The Toronto Maple Leafs were playing the Detroit Red Wings last night when Wings Lucas Raymond ran into Leafs goaltender Matt Muray, who was forced to leave the game with an injury.

Luckily for the Maple Leafs, Ilya Samsonov was able to come in and play the remainder of the game, but unluckily for us fans, the real goalie we wanted to see was in the change room getting ready:

Amazingly Curtis Joseph former NHL goalie and #LeafsForever goalie from 1998 to 2002 and again in 2008-2009 was the team's EBUG tonight had Ilya Samsonov gotten injured after Matt Murray left the game due to injury in the 1st Period
