The Colorado Avalanche are the defending Stanley Cup Champions, and so far this season they are 3rd in the Central Division with a 6-4-1 record, trailing only the WInnipeg Jets and Dallas Stars.
To this point, the Avalanche have been playing without long-time captain Gabriel Landeskog, who is still healing from an injury that he dealt with through the Stanley Cup run.
The devastating news is that the team has now announced that Playoff breakout star Valeri Nichushkin will miss atleast a month after undergoing ankle surgery.
Nichushkin has been dominant to start this season, averaging well over a point per game, and is currently a goal per game through his first 7.
The Avalanche are a bruised up team at the moment and will need to lean on their starts Cale Makar, Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen even more than usual to help them get through these next few weeks.
