6 years ago now when the Edmonton Oilers drafted Jesse Puljujarvi 4th overall in the 2016 draft, he was a highly touted prospect and it came with huge expectations that he was going to be the final piece that the team needed to become a true contender.

Unfortunately though, since arriving in the league he has never truly lived up to expectations and even found himself going back to Finland for a season to play in the SM-liiga league.

According to TSN's Tom Gazzola, it is rumoured that the Edmonton Oilers and Puljujarvi are parting ways. Puljujarvi Will not be returning to the Edmonton Oilers next season as both are looking for a fresh start.

In Puljujarvi's draft year, he absolutely lit up the World Juniors, scoring 5 goals 17 points in 5 games and had a decent season in the SM-liiga as a 17 year old. He had all the skills needed to become a successful NHL star, but it just doesn't seem to have translated into success with the Oilers. While he did produce his best season yet, scoring 14 goals and 36 points in 65 games, which is a very respectable amount, seeing players drafted after him like Matthew Tkachuk put up 100+ points has been difficult for the Oilers.

Puljujarvi is only 24 years old and still has a bright future ahead of him, but it just wont be with the Edmonton Oilers.
