The Florida Panthers won their first playoff series this year in decades, and also won the Presidents Trophy as the top team in the Regular season.

The Panthers were coached this past season by Andrew Brunette who took over in late October from Joel Quenneville after the Kyle Beach situation. Brunette led this team to a 51-18-6 record, which was the best Panthers record ever.

While he had the title of Interim coach, he was nominated for coach of the year, along with New York's Gerrard Gallant, and Calgary's Darryl Sutter.

We have just heard though that instead of offering the position of full-time head coach and removing the interim tag, the Florida Panthers will not heading in a different direction coaching wise and hiring Paul Maurice.

Paul Maurice is a veteran coach of 1685 games, with a record of 775-681-99-130. During this last season he resigned as coach of the Winnipeg Jets stating that this team needs a new coach at the helm to take them further. The Jets ended up missing the playoffs under the new coaching staff.

While apparently Brunette will remain with the club, it should be as head coach after the season he just had.
