After his playing days, Eakins served as the head coach of the Toronto Marlies and an assistant coach for the Maple Leafs. He then moved on to head coaching positions with the Edmonton Oilers and the Anaheim Ducks.
Eakins's latest venture takes him to Europe, where he has been appointed both the head coach and general manager of Adler Mannheim, a team in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL).
