New York Rangers insider Larry Brooks has stated that Alexis Lafreniere has been involved in the trade discussions between the Rangers and Canucks.

The Rangers and Canucks have reportedly been involved in intense trade negotiations over at least the last month.

These negotiations have centered around former Ranger JT Miller, who has been at the center of major controversy in Vancouver this year.

Unfortunately for the Canucks, Miller has a full no-move clause and he reportedly will only waive it to go to the Rangers which explains why the two teams have been in discussions.

Apparently, the two clubs got close to a deal yesterday but those negotiations deteriorated at the last minute.

That being said, it appears as though both teams remain interested in getting a deal done and so the discussions continue.

Now we might know who the Canucks are trying to get in return thanks to a report from Rangers insider Larry Brooks.

According to Brooks, 2020 1st overall pick Alexis Lafreniere has been a name that has consistently been brought up in negotiations.

The insider also revealed that Mika Zibanejad likely will not be a part of any deal involving Miller.

This is relevant as Zibanejad has been another name linked to the Canucks this season.

It is not often we see 1st overall picks get traded, but Lafreniere has not exactly lived up to expectations so far in New York.

Last season he took a big step forward putting up a career-high 57 points in 82 games, but this year he has just 25 points in 45 games, effectively the same scoring rate.

Still, though, the 23-year-old has the pedigree, talent, and potential to be a franchise cornerstone should the Rangers trade him to Vancouver.

It very well could be a move the team regrets.
