BREAKING: Framework for Fighting to Be Banned in the NHL Officially Released
Another hockey league has banned fighting which puts the future of fights in the NHL in jeopardy.
ECHL Bans Fighting
It was just announced that the ECHL would be tweaking their fighting rules which will remove fighting from the game almost entirely.
This rule could be the framework for the NHLs ban on fighting. First, the QMJHL banned fighting outright. Now, the ECHL, an affiliate of the NHL, has placed much heavier restrictions.
However, the ban is only to fighting that looks like this.
If a player were to take a cheap shot at a teammate, a player could get into a fight just fine.
This is just another step towards potentially seeing fighting outright banned in hockey in general. Eventually, the game may be played without dropping the gloves at all and be a watered down version of what it originally one. But, if that is the price for player safety, it is worth it.
