On the opening day of the NHL season, two contending teams have completed a trade.
Hurricanes Trade An NHL Defenseman To A Contender
The Carolina Hurricanes struck a deal with the Colorado Avalanche. The Avalanche were able to acquire Caleb Jones from Carolina.

Both players were slated to play in the AHL and will continue to do so. They will also be teammates as the Carolina Hurricanes do not have an AHL team at the moment. Cal Burke's NHL rights will now be owned by the Carolina Hurricanes though.
We have acquired Caleb Jones from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for Cal Burke.
Both players will continue to play for the Colorado Eagles.
Caleb Jones is the brother of Chicago Blackhawks star Seth Jones. He has played 217 NHL games and had 50 points in his NHL career.
Now he will have an opportunity to work his way onto a Colorado Avalanche roster that will be competing for a Stanley Cup,
