BREAKING: Montreal Canadiens Put Former First Rounder On Waivers
Montreal is letting go of a former top defenseman.
Canadiens Place Former 1st Round Pick On Waivers
The Montreal Canadiens have placed D Nicolas Beaudin on unconditional waivers for the purpose of a contract termination, the Canadiens announced.
The move was mutually agreed by both sides with Beaudin seeking other professional opportunities. Beaudin has played in just 16 Games in the AHL this season for Laval, with 6 points.
Beaudin was selected 27th Overall in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks, and later traded to Montreal in 2022 for Forward Cam Hillis. Beaudin signed a one-year, two-way extension with the Canadiens in 2023. Beaudin had not played with Montreal this season, having spent the year with Laval after clearing NHL waivers in September.
Beaudoin has 22 career NHL games, all with the Blackhawks, with a goal and 4 points in total in parts of 3 seasons.
Internationally, Beaudin was a member of Canada's gold medal winning World Championship team in 2021. Beaudin recently played for Canada at the 2023 Spengler Cup.
