Lane Lambert's hiring comes after the surprising firing of Islanders head coach Barry Trotz last week.
Lambert is currently an assistant coach with the Islanders, and had previously been an assistant coach with the Washington Capitals for 4 years, where he served under Trotz and won a Stanley Cup with the team in 2017-18.
Lambert was also an assistant with the Nashville Predators from 2011 - 2014.
Islanders GM Lou Lamoriello said of Lambert's hiring:
Lou Lamoriello on Lane Lambert: "I had the opportunity to work w/ Lane over the past four years, which includes spending time with him on a 1-on-1 basis when he served as the interim Head Coach this past season. In my opinion, he is the right person to coach this team." #Isles Joe Pantorno (@JoePantorno) May 16, 2022
Lambert has enjoyed a successful transition from player to coach in the NHL, he played 7 seasons in the league and scored 124 points in 283 games as a player.
