We are still early in the day on November 17th, and Pierre Dorion and the Ottawa Senators were up bright and early working on a trade to improve the Senators roster.

The Ottawa Senators did a lot this past offseason to improve the forward ranks by bringing in 2-time 40 goal scorer Alex Debrincat and former 100 point scorer Claude Giroux to fill out the top 6, but nothing was done to improve the back end.

Former 5th overall pick back in 2020 Jake Sanderson has stepped in this season on the back end and has played very well, putting up 9 points in 16 games, but they are still missing a true top 4 right handed defenceman.

It has been reported this morning by NHL Elliotte Friedman from Sportsnet, that Pierre Dorion and the Senators were successful getting a trade done with an unknown team, but unfortunately the player that was supposed to be going to Ottawa in the trade nixed the whole thing by refusing to waive his no-trade-clause.

The Senators completed a trade to acquire a defenseman, but it was "vetoed" because the defenseman involved did not want to go to Ottawa.

Friedman went on to say that this has happened before and is becoming very frequent as players with NTC's and NMC's are putting the Canadian teams on their no-trade lists.

We do not know the details of who the trade was for, but there has been quite a few rumours since his hot start that Erik Karlsson might be a good fit to return to Ottawa, and also a name that has been floating around is 28 year old Matt Dumba who has had a poor start to the season in Minnesota, and with him being on the final year of his current contract, the Wild will not have the cap space to re-sign the defender.
