The Tampa Bay Lightning are striving to make their fourth consecutive appearance in the Stanley Cup Finals, but their recent performance has been their poorest in almost four years. They have endured a five-game losing streak and lost eight of their last ten matches, including a crushing 6-0 defeat to the Carolina Hurricanes in which they managed only 14 shots and failed to register a single shot during the second period.
Regrettably, the game's most distressing moment occurred when their star defender, Victor Hedman, took a tumble and hobbled off the ice early in the second period. Despite attempting to return, he was unable to continue, and after the game, the team confirmed that he had sustained an injury, although the extent of the injury remained uncertain.
The Tampa Bay Lightning announced that Hedman would not return due to his injury. The Lightning coach is hopeful that he will return soon, but there has been no update:
Jon Cooper confirms Victor Hedman is out tonight, but Erik Cernak will be back in the lineup for Tampa Bay. Cooper said he hopes that Hedman won't miss an extended amount of time and said, "I'd put him in that day-to-day category."
