There's no doubt that Connor Bedard is already a superstar in the NHL. However, at 18 years old, he still has things to learn.

Luke Richardson, the Blackhawks' head coach, is well aware of it, and does what he thinks is best for the young player's development.

Blackhawks Head Coach Shares Why He's Limiting Bedard's Ice Time

In a recent press conference, Richardson revealed that he doesn't send Bedard on the ice when his team has the lead at the end of games.

Why? Simply because more experienced players are available to protect leads.

"When they're close and we have the lead, I think we've been using guys like Dickinson's line and Tyler Johnson's and Kershev's, guys like that, that have a little more experience to play in a five on six situation at this level. So he's not going to be probably a part of that equation yet.

But, you know, he's a great player and he's got a good eye hand coordination with stick abilities that at some point we'd like him to be involved in that, but right now, that probably plays into ice time as well at the end of the game."

Bedard will have a bigger role in his team once he gains more experience. Keeping him from these situations is an interesting strategy, but at some point, he'll need to be on the ice for crucial moments in order to reach the next level.
