Tonight the Vancouver Canucks finally pulled the trigger and traded their caption Bo Horvat after failing to come to terms on a contract extension.

The 2013 9th overall pick, now at the age of 27 is having a career year, scoring 31 goals and 54 points in 49 games and is looking to cash in on it.

The Canucks acquired Anthony Beauvillier, Aatu Raty, and a protected 2023 1st round draft pick from the New York Islanders in exchange.

Normally when we see a blockbuster trade like this with an upcoming UFA, there is a deal in place to immediately sign an extension after trading, but that is not the case.

The New York Islanders are an old team and are currently not in a playoff spot, which could be concerning to the newly acquired player. As of right now, the new Islander stated there have been no contract talks about an extension:

No extension talks with @NYIslanders yet. "We'll see if we can something done, but I'll leave it up to Pat [Morris] to handle that."

This could either be a trade that is huge for the Islanders right now and help them remain a contending team, or it could be a huge disaster if he chooses to leave after this season, after giving up a few huge assets to acquire him.

Fans have not been pleased with some of the moves that Lou Lamoriello has made and this has the potential to be a complete disaster:
