With reports slowly coming out suggesting that both Patrice Bergeron and David Krecji will retire in the off-season, the Boston Bruins are in a desperate need for a centre.
Knowing the success they had with those two players, who both played a strong two-way game, a good two-way centerman is at the top of the Bruins list.
The Winnipeg Jets are entering a retool, and star centre Mark Scheifele is likely available.
Per Elliotte Friedman, there is major interest:
Acquiring Scheifele wouldn't be cheap, especially for the Bruins and their empty prospect pool. If they were to be able to come up with an acceptable package (some sort of combination of future first round picks, roster players, prospects), the Bruins could stay in contention.
One very possible route is that the Bruins would trade a goalie - either Linus Ullmark or Jeremy Swayman. This would give the Jets more comfort as they pursue options for Connor Hellebuyck.
Scheifele would certainly be magical with players like Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak.
The only question is - can the Bruins pull off this blockbuster deal?
