Bruins Players Make Massive Equipment Changes Following Yesterday's Tragedy

The tragic accident involving Adam Johnson has already had a massive effect on the hockey world. Particularly changes when it comes to player safety are already coming into effect.

Tragedy Strikes The Hockey World After Freak Accident

Yesterday a freak accident occured when former NHLer Adam Johnson had his neck cut by a skate. He sadly passed away from the injury sending the entire hockey world into a state of grief.

The National Hockey League family mourns the passing of former Pittsburgh Penguin Adam Johnson. Our prayers and deepest condolences go to his family, friends and teammates.

Since his passing conversations about better and more equipment to improve player safety have been had. While the discussions are being had by leagues one team has taken action immediately.

Bruins Players Make Massive Equipment Changes

The Providence Bruins played their first game since the tragedy. In that game several players were seen wearing neck guards. Until this point no players were required or had worn a neck guard. The Bruins are the first organization to take this necessary step.

Several Providence Bruins, including John Farinacci and Fabian Lysell, wearing neck guards tonight.

Good for them. In the best interest of the players and leagues to move towards mandatory use. They're pretty noninvasive nowadays, too.

A number of @AHLBruins played wearing neck guards on Sunday.

This comes after former NHL player Adam Johnson died following a freak accident in an EIHL game

As more players and teams play in the wake of this tragedy we will see if more teams and players follow the Bruins in wearing neck guards. The NHL and NHLPA have reportedly already discussed either requiring or strongly recommending neck guards going forward after this season.

As the hockey community continues to process the loss of Adam Johnson our thoughts are with Johnson's family, teammates, coaches, and friends.
