When Cale Makar was drafted 4th overall out of the BCHL by the Colorado Avalanche back in 2017, many were wondering what the potential of this kid could be. The BCHL is a junior A league which not many players make it to the NHL from, it's more of a route for college or university hockey in Canada.
Even Nathan MacKinnon was scratching his head when he was drafted:
Four years now into his NHL career he has become one of, if not the best defenceman in the league.
Makar just won the Stanley cup, where he also won the Conn Smythe as the playoffs Most Valuable Player. Not to mention, that Makar also won the Norris Trophy as the best defenceman in the league this year.
At the young age of 23, this kid's future is bright and after scoring 28 goals and 86 points this year, we can only imagine what kind of numbers he can score going forward.
In the last 4 seasons, Makar has won the:
-Hobey Baker Award (2019)
-Calder Trophy (2020)
-Norris Trophy (2022)
-Conn Smythe Trophy (2022)
-Stanley Cup (2022)
After winning all these awards, he joins elite company as one of now 3 players to every win the Norris and Conne Smythe in the same season. Those other 2 players are:
Bobby Orr (1970)
Bobby Orr (1972)
Nicklas Lidstrom (2002)
Cale Makar (2022)
