Recently, the Chilliwack Chiefs went on the open market. They are one of the premier BCHL teams, a Junior A team which is a step below the CHL. Despite being only a Junior A league, the league has boasted top talents including players like Kyle Turris who went third overall in 2007 and Bradly Nadeau who was a first round pick in the 2023 NHL draft.
With the league being a premier option for top talent, the Vancouver Canucks have made a bid to purchase the team with the biggest arena in the BCHL, the Chilliwack Chiefs.
The Chiefs arena seats 5,000 people which is close to the Arizona Coyotes arena which seats, 5,025.
The Chiefs have produced some NHLers in their day and currently have 2023 Ottawa Senators draft pick Vladimir Nikitin on their roster.
Of the notable alumni, it includes players like Dennis Cholowski, Jeff Tambelini, and former Oilers captain, Shawn Horcoff.
Per Steve Ewen of The Province, the Canucks are closing in on a deal to purchase the Chiefs. This will give them a distinct advantage because they will be able to more closely watch certain prospects and could eventually develop talent that will one day play for their team.
