Being a professional hockey player isn't always glitz and glamour, particularly when an unexpected trade occurs, and especially when a family with children are involved.

Casey DeSmith's Situation

Regrettably, this is the predicament faced by Casey DeSmith, who has recently broken his silence about the trade that transferred him to the Montreal Canadiens. It's clear that the situation is far from ideal for him at the moment.

The esteemed journalist Anthony Martineau of TVA Sports, recently reported:

"I am told that Casey DeSmith and his partner are experiencing a great deal of anxiety right now. His wife is due to give birth in the next few hours/days and is still in Pittsburgh. The goalie, for his part, is waiting to find out under what circumstances he will have to move his little family."

The Future of Goaltending in Montréal

In relation to an upcoming transaction within the Canadiens, Martineau mentioned that Kent Hughes remains open to trade possibilities, hinting that DeSmith might not be the only goalie that could be on the move in the following weeks.

Naturally, as a capable general manager, Hughes is actively pursuing the most favourable trade opportunity to benefit his team's long-term prospects. While Samuel Montembeault's future is rather certain, as he's confirmed to remain in Montreal, the same certainty doesn't extend to Jake Allen.

Of course, it's perfectly understandable that this situation must be exceedingly distressing for a player, but even more so for a family that's uncertain about what's to come or where they'll be relocating, especially with a newborn on the way.

For the well-being of the DeSmith family, we can only hope for a swift resolution to this matter.
