Cody Ceci has been an often maligned defenseman for fans, but NHL GMs and coaches love his reliance and defensive play. The Oilers signed him to a four-year $13-million contract in July 2021. He currently has one-year remaining on his deal.

Senators in search for veteran help and Ceci fits the mould

Reports have the new Ottawa Senators GM Steve Staios looking for veteran help to help the young core move forwards.

Cody Ceci has played 742 career NHL games and always said he'd love going back to where his career started.

A return for Ceci would seem like a match, but many factors would have to be worked out. Ceci still has a year left on his deal after this season. The Senators blue line would have to get a whole lot less crowded too as six members have at least one more season there, and that does not count Erik Brannstrom either who is a RFA too.

Ceci's career so far has seemingly just spanned Canada

Ceci has played 742 games over 11 seasons, all with Canadian teams except for one year as a Pittsburgh Penguin. He has 196 points over that time, but is never known for his scoring.

If he becomes a UFA and the Ottawa Senators sign him in the 2025 off-season then it will be quite the reunion in Ceci's 13th season.
