The IIHF issued some very severe sanctions against both Russia and Belarus', National Teams after the Russian invasion into the Ukraine. The IIHF chose to ban both teams from upcoming tournaments in an attempt to punish these organizations for their countries actions. This punishment also involved removing tournaments from these areas that had been planned to take place.
Today EA Sports, the company who produces NHL's yearly video game made an announcement of their own:
Following the IIHF's suspension of all Russian and Belarusian national and club teams from IIHF competitions. We will be removing these teams from NHL 22 within the coming weeks.
We stand with the people of Ukraine and join the voices around the world calling for peace.
This announcement is going to do very little to apply pressure on Russia or Belarus, but it does show the level of support Ukraine has established from around the entire world.
EA Sports might be in the game, but Russia and Belarus won't be.
